In September 20, 2009, Ray Lewis made a play which he called “one of the greatest plays of my career.”  One play, one time, worth an entire article to write up.  One play.  Two seconds of effort, preceded by moments of anticipation, hours of preparation, and a lifetime (in football terms) of honed instinct.

One play.

The ball rested on the Baltimore 15 yard-line with 37 seconds left, the Ravens leading the San Diego Chargers 31-26 after over 3 hours of play.  It was fourth and two, but Ray Lewis was calling it “fourth and the game” to go.

Going the extra mile is a matter of life and death

It’s amazing how many times in the Bible, Jesus takes the time to tell a story to get his point across.  He would sit down on a rock and gather the disciples around him and begin to teach in a patient, loving manner.

As coaches or athletes, are we willing to go the extra mile to get a point across?  Are we willing to submit our ego and congratulate another for playing better than us?  One simple gesture or comment can change history forever.

Baseball and Ethics, Part #2:  "What do we do about the Steroid Era players?"

In my last article in this series on Baseball And Ethics, I discussed the fact that right now Major League Baseball (MLB) is in a major quandary regarding very complex ethical issues, and how it resolves these issues is, in my opinion, the greatest challenge it has ever faced. I believe that if MLB does not appropriately resolves these ethical issues it is facing, that this has the potential to even destroy the game itself and/or its legacy.
