Back to the Basics

What does it mean to be a Christian? What did it mean to be a Christian? Comparing the Christ followers of today to the Christ followers of the bible, would you say that they are the same or that there is a major difference between the two? Let’s give some serious thought to this question. I'm not looking for some religious answer or the opinion of what you heard someone say. I want your honest and true thoughts on this. think. . . . . ok, now that you have thought about it for a bit, I'm going to give you my thoughts and i want you to tell me what you think. I believe while there are some similarities in the two parties, there is one great disparity that is proving to be a major faux pas in our time. What is it that i speak of you ask. I'm glad you asked because i am about to tell you. Somewhere along the line, we have gotten away from the meaning of the word Christian. Let us first define the word. The word Christian means simply to be Christ-like. Our character as "Christians" is not of a good one. We know how to act as Christians, yet many of us are unfamiliar with being a Christian. We have turned this Christ walk from servitude to serve me. Now this is not a statement that applies to everyone, it does though apply to more than not. I myself have fallen into this category. Praise God for grace and mercy. Christianity has become more of what I can get out of the deal more-so than what I can do for others. When you look at the life of Christ, His whole point of existence was to serve. It was nothing about Him but all about His people. Please don’t misunderstand me in this; I know that the Father has blessed us with the ability to get results, Godly results in every aspect of our lives. We as Christian are to be the head and not the tail, above and not beneath, the lender and not the borrower, whole lacking nothing. Yes He wants us to be blessing far beyond what we can think or even imagine. It’s just when we take these scriptures for our own selfish gain and that's where it becomes a problem. The Christian people need to take the attention of self for a bit and refocus on Christ. Before Jesus came, the prophets and people of God all talked about Jesus. When Jesus walked the earth, it was about Jesus. After He left, the talk was Jesus. Jesus is the Gospel, not you and I. When the focus of Christianity becomes “I”, it becomes of no effect. Jesus was so effective in His ministry because the focus was the gospel. Take this for consideration . . . We all know the story of peter walking on water. Peter was doing just fine as long as his focus was on Jesus. When he began to notice the winds and the waves is when he began to sink. The Christian society is sinking in this day and age because we have lost our focus. Christ is The Chief Cornerstone, not us! It has become more evident with the publication of all these self help books being published now a days. This has become the draw to Christianity. The draw now is how God will bless YOU and get YOU out of debt along with how He can heal YOUR sick body. Now yes these are all benefits of the Kingdom. With that being said, it should not be your reason for being in the kingdom. Jesus is enough. He lived, died, and rose again all for you. Despite not wanting to endure the cross, he said nevertheless and did it anyway. His love was and is enough. Ladies and gentleman, let’s get back to the basics. Jesus is the basis and the foundation of this Christian walk. when we lose Him, we lose the very essence of our very selves as Christians. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added unto you. . . . The time is now for us to bring Jesus back to the forefront of the Christian society. Back to the Basics, Back to Jesus!
